PROFILE OF THE COLLEGE PROVOST, PROFESSOR MOJISOLA ADENIKE OYAREKUA



The Provost of the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, a Princess of AdoEkiti, Professor Mojisola Adenike OYAREKUA is an astute educationist, a nutritionist, a seasoned school administrator and an erudite entrepreneur of international repute. At her early stage in life, Professor Oyarekua had a vision of improving the well-being of aged people through Help-Hands International Mission.

Professor Oyarekua, an administrator of unusual versatility, distinguished scholar and an amazon with a brand of reference, whose exploits in the field of human endeavours have traversed many terrains and who currently holds the mantle of leadership of the Institution - the prestigious College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti.

As the 3rd born of her parents, was born in Ado-Ekiti in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State. She attended St. Saviour's Primary School, Ado-Ekiti where she obtained her Primary School Leaving Certificate. She proceeded to Christ's School, Ado-Ekiti in 1966 and passed out in 1970. She also proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she graduated with a degree in Laboratory Science Technology. The quest for further education propelled her to the Alabama A&M University, United States of America (USA) for her M.Sc and a Doctorate degree from the University of Ibadan in 2006.

On the professional plane, Professor Oyarekua became:

- an Associate Member, London Institute of Science Technology;
- Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Science Technology (FNIST);
- Member, Nigerian Institute of Biology (NIBIOL);
- Member, International Organization of Mycoplasmology, USA;
- Member, Society of International Development (SID), Geneva;
- Member, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST);
- Member, Nigerian Institute of Microbiology;
- Member, Kappa Delta Pi, USA;
- Member, Nigerian Institute of Microbiology (NIM);
- Member, Nigerian Institute of Experimental Biology; and
- Fellow, Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration.

No doubt, Professor Oyarekua stands tall in terms of academics while her professional reputation is truly prepossessing. In a career life spanning over 25 years, she has held different positions in places where she worked. She had at a time worked as Research Technician at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan; Laboratory Technologist at the National Cereals Research Institute, Ibadan; Research Technologist at the Post Graduate Medical Research Center, University College Hospital, Ibadan; Lecturer at the Polytechnic Ibadan; lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti; Visiting Scientist, International Research Development Centre (IRDC) Montepellier, France; Senior Lecturer at the erstwhile University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti (TUNEDIK) and University of Science and Technology Ifaki (USTI). She was also at the Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) and the Federal University Oye (FUOYE) before her appointment as the 7th Provost of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti in December 2015.

Professor Oyarekua's outstanding record of practice, dedication and discipline assisted her to come first in the interview to the position of the Provost of the prestigious College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti. Quite expectedly, she has brought to bear her wealth of experience in ensuring the smooth running and development of the College. Her eventful career in the public service has been punctuated by commendations, encomiums and significant landmarks.

Professor Oyarekua has authored over 35 publications in many national and international reputable journals in the field of Food Science. She is equally a recipient of several awards.

In the religious circle, Professor (Mrs.) Oyarekua is the International CEO, Help-Hands International Mission to the Aged; Staff Adviser, Joint Campus Christian Fellowship, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti from 2005 -2008; Patroness, Christ Ambassador Students Outreach, 2002-2008; Patroness, New Covenant Church, Campus Fellowship 2002 till date; Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti; and Elder New Covenant Church, Ibadan till date.

Despite her regale background, she exudes an aura of feminine friendliness and connects with people without collusion. Her relentless works of charity mark her out as an exemplar of purposeful existence. The aged, the needy, the indigent and less privileged have always been benefitting from her milk of human kindness.

She is generously endowed with rare leadership abilities, compassionate in mind and respects the dignity of human person to a fault. Her calm approach, her comprehension of important factors in every issue, her objective conclusions and moral courage are simply majestic.

Her favourite pastimes include writing and reading books, watching documentaries on nature and health.

This humble administrator could best be described as a woman with the Midas touch as anything she touches turns to success. Professor Oyarekua has attended numerous international seminars and management programmes.

She is happily married with grown-up children and a foster-mother to many children and grand children.
